Alaska Excursions

Alaska Excursions is looking for people who are fully committed to doing everything possible to ensure our guests leave feeling as though they just experienced the best excursion ever! So, the ability to entertain and engage with people as well as the ability to provide superior guest service is a must for all of our positions.

First Aid & CPR certifications are required for ALL positions. If you don’t have them when you apply, don’t worry. There’s still time for you to get them before you start the job.

Our “Naturalist and Canoe Guides” work on our larger touring vessels and with our canoes. As “Naturalists,” and a member of the Boat Crew, a large part of the job is providing guests information about the area and what they are seeing around them during the boat ride to and from Glacier Point. The crew also assists the Captain in operating the boat (mainly pre and post trip duties as well as assisting in the docking process) and in maintaining the cleanliness of the boat. As guest safety is always a top priority, the crew is responsible for ensuring the safety of the guests as well.

Throughout each work day, when working as a Canoe Guide at Glacier Point, the guides are responsible for a variety of tasks ranging from piloting groups of up to 11 guests in a 31’ foot Voyageur canoe while regaling them with stories about the area, transferring guests from the beach to the gear pavilion in one of our Safari buses, and general up keep and maintenance tasks. The guides at the point are responsible for ensuring that our guests have a safe, educational, and fun experience.

Guides may spend some nights living “off the grid” at the Glacier Point location. As Glacier Point is a remote location, there is no running water and only minimal electricity provided by a generator. Guides generally have a one room cabin to themselves and there is a shared community living cabin outfitted with a kitchen and living space. While there is a rain water catchment system in place for showering, drinking water is hauled in from town.

Requirements:
The position is extremely guest service oriented so a love of people is a must. As story telling is a large part of the job, strong communication skills are also required. Must pass a USCG pre-employment drug test, as well as random testing throughout the season. It is preferred that guides have a Wilderness Advanced First Aid or a Wilderness First Responder Certification but at minimum must have CPR and First Aid Certification. Our guides must also be physically fit and able to spend large amounts of time standing and paddling a canoe.
